I started remodeling my kitchen roughly a year and a half ago. While it’s 85% done and 95% usable, I have not made significant progress in over a year.
To be fair to myself, some of that is not my fault. Most of the drawer fronts have been cut and ready to be sealed for over a year. My wife, knowing that I hate painting and wood finishing with a passion, and not trusting me to do a good job of that, has assigned herself to be the one to complete that step. She has in the interim year put some sealer on precisely three drawer fronts. None of them are installed. That particular delay is not on me.
The doors though. Well, I have had the parts for them cut to size for over a year as well. Today I finally milled the tongues and grooves on the first one, and glued it up. Te chnically this is a drawer front too, for the large pot/pot lid drawer, but it’s built the same way as the doors will be. Close enough. I’m calling it door number one.
Only 20 more to go now.
Well, 26 if I’m going to build the doors for the custom vanity and medicin e cabinets in our master bathroom, which I started before our seven year old child was born.
Man time flies.

Better make that 36. My teal cabinet doors are looking a bit dated

If you send me some money, we can make that happen ;)

Unrelated, but would you be interested in some of my old micromachines? It’s mostly the playset (Super Stunt City). I thought I remember you saying that you like micromachines

I’ve got a $5 bill—Canadian—and a box full of kreg screws. I’ll even throw in a Mason jar full of PNW rainwater to really swee ten the deal. You in?

Wow, you are tighter than two coats of paint :)

I love Micro Machines! I'm definitely interested.

Now I feel shitty that I am going to go the Ikea route. Will be pairing those up with the Semi Home-made fronts. They will make custom sizes for the two or so odd sized ones I need to cut down to fit.

I plan to stay in this house a lot longer that any Ikea kitchen will last. I can't afford to buy good cabinets, so I've built them all from scratch.

I usually hate finishing as well, but I've come to really like using wipe on poly. Rather than brush it on, you wipe it on in thin coats. It takes a lot of coats, but leaves a really nice finish. Seriously, try it out.

I have. It’s good stuff, I agree , but this is way too big of a job for that.

The trick is to break it up into a series of smaller, more manageable jobs. Like one coat of poly on one thing a night. After a month, it's done.

As a frequently frustrated wood butcher...you have my sympathy and my understanding.

Thank you :)
I have been putting this off for so long, because I've actually been nervous about screwing it up.

Oh, that's a big project!

And that's just the outside! There's a large window ready to go in that new wall. One day...soon. Otherwise my son may turn into a bat!

I was researching HVLP sprayers for my car and came across this which may be perfect for cabinets. https://www.harborfreight.com/high-volume-low-pressure-spray-gun-kit-44677.html . I think that one is only two turbine and for cars you need four or 5. Basically a vacuum that blows paint, but nicely and evenly for a fine finish that is hard to get with a brush. If you have a garage, a box fan for exhaust and some saw horses you could paint them all in a day or two.

I have been eyeballing t hat actually. My house desperately needs an exterior paint job.

They’d be a bit pricey to ship, but they’d be very cheap. Not sure what cars I have, but this is the pictures I have of them
I’m not at home currently, so I won’t be able to take more pictures readily, but I can ask my parents if you would like.

Those are really cool! No rush , send me some more pics whenever you're home next. We'll talk about the money part then.
